Disney’s decisions in relation to Star Wars haven’t been universally popular. In fact, the franchise has never been in such a state of contrived flux as it is under their direction, but one of their most recent additions to the universe might be worth all the hassle the sequel trilogy brought about. Thanks to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction coming to Disneyland, which debuts May 31st, fans can finally do the most important thing that they’ve always wanted.

Forget the rides and the appropriately attired actors wandering about the attraction. You can build your own lightsaber. You can also build your own droid, but you can imagine that the first one is what really got most people’s attention.

Disneyland’s online entry on the matter succinctly explains what the experience will entail.

“Travel to Black Spire Outpost, where a group known as the “Gatherers” ushers you into a covert workshop packed with unusual parts, whimsical pieces and miscellaneous memorabilia collected from the far reaches of the galaxy.

Under their guidance, you can construct your very own lightsaber and bring it to life through the power of kyber crystals. Builders beware—you must protect the shop’s secrecy to avoid being discovered by the First Order!

Once your lightsaber is complete (purchase required!), you’ll be ready to embark on incredible new adventures—from the far reaches of Wild Space to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!”

The complete build your own lightsaber package will come with a metal hilt with a design of your choosing, a ‘kyber crystal’ available in four different colors (no specifics on which four colors those are, but blue, green and red seem likely at least) and a carrying case. The ‘blade’ of the souvenir will be 36 inches long. The price for this complete package will be $199.00, plus tax. Sounds hefty, but a high quality model lightsaber generally costs around four hundred dollars, so it remains to be seen if this is actually a great deal or if the product is only half as good as what you could get elsewhere.

For building your own, droid, you can choose between models akin to BB-8 or R2-D2. Prices start at $99, but these remote control toys will have many different options in body parts, so customization options will be varied. Disney even stated that ‘personality chips and other affiliations’ would be available. We can assume that these are going to come with remotes as well.

Price is probably a secondary concern compared to even getting to the attraction though. The Galaxy’s Edge attraction will only be available through reservation from May 31 through June 23rd. And of course, one can expect that these souvenirs will be bought up pretty quickly, since the stores open at 2AM on the 31st.

Either way though, there’s little doubt that this opportunity to make your own lightsaber will be what attracts many fans to the area. The real question is, will they offer the ability to make a double-bladed one?
