Recently, Ubisoft has made quite a significant change to its primary player services, Ubisoft Club and Uplay. From here on out, both services will function under Ubisoft Connect, a platform from the popular game publisher that intends to aid players in staying connected with not only each other but themselves, via things like cross-progression and cross-platform support.
Ubisoft Connect will debut on October 29 alongside the launch of Watch Dogs: Legion. Players with a Ubisoft account will be able to “play, progress, and stay in touch with friends anywhere.”
Ubisoft has stated that the new Connect service will “make cross-platform features a standard moving forward.” As said previously, this will happen first and foremost with Watch Dogs: Legion later this month, but Ubisoft has said that games like Immortals Fenyx Rising, Riders Republic, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will support “full cross-progression” as well.
The press release informed us that this cross-progression will be available on “all platforms and services.” This includes the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 ad 5. On top of this, streaming services like GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, and Stadia will feature “some” Ubisoft Connect features this year. Unfortunately, the press release didn’t provide us with any specifics as to what those features for the cloud gaming and streaming services are going to be, or what those services will be lacking compared to the other platforms.
As of right now, there is a Ubisoft Connect mobile app for both Android and iOS. The new Ubisoft Connect client can also be downloaded now, if you wanted to.
It’s worth noting that the press release mentioned “cross-progression” support, but it did not specify anything about cross-play. At this moment, only a few major titles support cross-play, including Fortnite, Rocket League, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Brawlhalla. Whether or not cross-play is in the cards long term remains to be seen.
In a manner not much different from Uplay and Ubisoft Club, players will have the option to participate in unique cross-game challenges designed to encourage gamers to play a wide variety of Ubisoft games in order to earn special rewards such as cosmetic items within other Ubisoft titles.
The new “universal interface” will feature a newsfeed that lets you know what your friends are doing, as well as a “Smart Intel” feature which will provide players with tips specific to different games. There are also leaderboards and stat-tracking, which will allow players to keep track of their stats and compared them to the player base around the globe.
To Celebrate the announcement of Ubisoft Connect, the company has made more than 1,000 Ubisoft rewards available to all players for free, so anyone interested in that will want to take advantage of it as soon as possible. While there’s not a whole lot to do with Ubisoft Connect right this moment, there will soon be plenty of reason for every Ubisoft fan to make use of it.
