The massive success of game developer CD Projekt Red can only be attributed to how amazing the Witcher series of games is in almost every aspect. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most critically acclaimed RPGs out there, and needless to say, fans of the series are always looking for more content. A dedicated Gwent game is a wonderful start, but it’s not enough to scratch that itch.

That said, most people kind of felt as though it would be some time before we saw another Witcher game considering CD Projekt’s dedication to Cyberpunk 2077; granted, it may still be some time, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel for Witcher fans.

This information comes from a report out of Poland in which CD Projekt president Adam Kicinski shed some light on the nature of the next Witcher game. First and most importantly: it is nowhere close to being released. In fact, development of this game isn’t set to begin until Cyberpunk 2077 is released, and that isn’t happening until September 17th of this year, if it doesn’t get delayed again. Second, while being set in the Witcher universe, the game is not going to be titled ‘The Witcher 4.’

On top of that, development for the game will probably be pretty slow at first. Considering that Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a lot of multiplayer modes following its release, much of the CD Projekt staff will probably be dedicated to that endeavor. Still, confirmation that development of another Witcher game in the future is better than fans wondering if the series has reached its conclusion or not.

Finally, the bit of sad news is that, no matter what this future Witcher game ends up being, we won’t see Geralt in it: or at least, he won’t be the main character. CD Projekt has been pretty adamant regarding The Witcher 3 as the end of Geralt’s story, so it is almost guaranteed that we will be following a different character or an entirely new one through the universe of the series.

The other bit of sad news is just how long it will probably be before we learn anything concrete about this future Witcher game: but again, knowing there’s one on the way, regardless of its distance, is better than total uncertainty.
