Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Until Later this Year

Unfortunately, hotly anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed yet again, with its April 16th date no longer in the cards. Instead, we won’t be getting the game until September 17th, though it will still be available to pre-order.

Other than this delay, however, the game is still set to released on Xbox, PlayStation, and Stadia, so nothing has changed on that front.

According to CD Projekt Red, the game is technically in a playable state right now, as they admitted as much themselves.

As reported on Gamespot and posted to Twitter:

“We are currently at a state where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done,” CD Projekt Red wrote in a press release. “Night City is massive – full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish play-testing, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”

On top of this, the game developer has stated that there will be regular updates as to how the game is coming along. On the other hand, CD Projekt Red has not revealed any plans to make the game for next generation consoles, despite the fact that the game will now be released even closer to the debut of those next gen consoles.

While it is a little concerning that they have chosen this route, it is unlikely that it will impact sales too heavily, considering the high level of excitement for the game.

Either way, even though it is unfortunate that Cyberpunk 2077 will be delayed even further than intended, it is preferable for a developer to push a game’s date back in order to make it as good as possible, rather than rushing the game out to meet a deadline before it is complete.

So while waiting even longer for the game than intended is going to be very frustrating for many gamers, we should probably be grateful that CD Projekt Red is taking development of their game very seriously, with the intent to make it as good as they possibly can. With any luck, the regular updates they have promised will reveal plenty of good news for us gamers as the months continue to roll by.
