For fans of the ever popular Dragon Quest series, there’s good new to be had, provided you own a Nintendo Switch. Of course there’s the release of Dragon Quest 11 to look forward to later this month, but we aren’t referring to that alone. Square Enix has announced that the first three games in the series will also be released on Nintendo Switch on September 27th. The three of them will be sold individually on the Nintendo eShop, though it’s unclear if they will also get a physical copy release at some point.
It’s worth noting that these releases won’t actually be based on the original 1986 versions, but rather the mobile versions that came out in 2004. This means that some of the artwork will likely not be the same as the true originals, though the gameplay should be mostly identical. Of course, with this games being pretty darn old, classic or not, you won’t have to pay too terribly much for them. Dragon Quest will only be $4.99, Dragon Quest 2: Luminaries of the Legendary Line will be $6.49, and Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation will be $12.49.
Square Enix was even kind enough to provide a rough synopsis of all three games, in case you’re actually one of the uninitiated who didn’t play them in the past.
“The iconic Erdrick trilogy begins in the acclaimed Dragon Quest where players begin their voyage as the “Hero,” a descendant of the valiant hero Erdrick in an epic journey through the historic realm of Alefgard. Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line takes place a century later, where the young prince of Midenhall embarks on a journey to find the other two descendants of Erdrick in order to defeat the nefarious Hargon. The third and final title in the Erdrick trilogy, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, takes players through the land of Aliahan, where a young hero has been charged with an impossible task of slaying Baramos, the master of darkness.”
While most people will be looking forward to the release of Dragon Quest 11, there’s no denying that a lot of nostalgia value is coming our way with the release of these three classics as well. Whether you’re a brand new fan or an old-timer that remembers the glory days, looking into these three is well worth it.
