Bandai Namco and the American Red Cross are making an interesting partnership in which gamers can get a copy of the upcoming Code Vein at San Diego, for the small price of your blood. That’s right, if you’re in San Diego this Friday, you can get a much anticipated video game for free, fiscally speaking. The only cost to you will be a little donated blood.

Additional info on the location for this can be found here, but the gist of things is that you donate some blood, get a free copy of the game, and even a ‘promo blood kit’ though we aren’t exactly sure what all that entails or includes.
Unfortunately things are still a little lacking in details; it’s unclear if you have to sign up for the blood donation online prior to Friday. Some have reported that they were able to pre-register, earning a response from Red Cross that said their donation would save up to three lives. But others have reported being unable to do the same, receiving a message that online scheduling wasn’t available. That said, it’s unclear if walk-ins will be accepted.
Another burning question is of more importance to the game itself; we don’t know which platform the Code Vein copy will be for, or if players will get to choose. No information has been released regarding that specific detail thus far, though Bandai Namco said that more light would be shed on this during TwitchCon. A lot of these details need to be ironed out for many of us to take advantage of the great opportunity.
That said, it’s still a pretty cool partnership, and a great way to get the highly anticipated Code Vein for free. Of course if you weren’t going to San Diego already, the trip probably wouldn’t be worth it ultimately, but if you were already going to be present for the event, there’d certainly be no reason to skip out on a free game while you’re at it, at the best discount of all.
Unfortunately, it’ll probably be some time before we can expect blood to be considered regular payment for video games.
