Xbox is Likely to see more Single Player Games in the Future

Microsoft and its major gaming platform may be best known for multiplayer games, but it’s possible that they are looking to diversify their offerings in the near future. Allegedly, more single-player titles are in the works at both Microsoft and its umbrella studios.

This information came in the form of a response from Xbox head Phil Spencer, to a tweet that asked if Xbox would be getting more single-player games. While his answer was little more than “Yes, I can confirm,” that is still concrete evidence of what is to come.

Yes, I can confirm. With the additions to XGS we have a lot of teams that have built strong SP focused games and we want that to continue.

That said, it doesn’t specify how many single-player games happen to be in development or are planned for development, or which developers are in charge of them. However, Spencer did assure that the with new Xbox Game Studios additions, they have “a lot of teams that have built strong [single-player] focused games and we want that to continue.”

At the moment, it is unclear if Spencer is referring to first or third party titles. One of the currently most anticipated single-player games, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is coming to the Xbox One on November 15^th, but is heading to the PC and PlayStation 4 as well. Remedy Entertainment’s ‘Control’ is in a similar boat, debuting on August 27^th for the Xbox, but for the other two platforms as well.

However, there are many developers we could expect to see single player games from, due to how many companies are now under Microsoft’s wing. This of course includes 343 Industries of Halo renown, Ninja Theory, developer of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Compulsion Games, which did We Happy Few, Playground Games of Forza renown, and Coalition, responsible for Gears of War. On top of that, Microsoft recently acquired Double Fine Productions, Outer Worlds creator Obsidian Entertainment, and Wasteland 3 developer InXile entertainment.

With all of these studios and the various single player games they’ve made already, we can probably expect to see several more titles of the same nature in the coming years. Of course, not all of those games did fantastic; so hopefully they’ll rework the formula a bit and provide Xbox players with something truly gripping. Until then though, we have no idea how many new single player games we are likely to see, when they may come out, or who would be making them. That said, all we can really do is wait for new games and trailers to be revealed, though whether or not we’d have to wait until E3 2020 for that is a mystery.
