It’s been a while since Yoko Taro’s Nier: Automata made a big splash in the gaming community, but the impact of that title lives on even now. People have jumped all over Nier related content since Automata’s release, and no one can really blame them for it, considering it was one of the best games of its year.

Unfortunately for anyone living outside of Japan, Yoko Taro’s fairy tale role-playing game for mobile devices, SinoAlice, was limited to its country of origin since it launched all the way back in 2017. A global release of the game was going to come out in 2019, but it got delayed for reasons we won’t go in to. But finally, on July 1st, the game will be released globally.

The pre-register site for Google Play is already active, and the iOS pre-register site will be available at a later date. Players will receive unique rewards when the game launches based on how many people preregister for it. These rewards will include things like special gear and extra events to participate in.

As you might imagine from the title of the game, it is based on the fairy tale character Alice (albeit a very anime version of her). The game also starts fairy tale characters like Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding Hood and Snow White. This all sounds pretty child-friendly on the surface, but anyone who played Nier: Automata knows that a Yoko Taro game will be violent, filled with dark and depressing themes and probably a fair deal of risqué attire. That said, the composer for Nier: Automata also made the game’s soundtrack, so that’s definitely worth looking forward to.

The game will also have some collaboration with both Nier: Automate and Nier: Replicant. A special two-part event will launch with the game, combining special classes and the series mascot Emil with SinoAlice.

In other Nier related news, the series is celebrating its 10th birthday this month, with Square Enix releasing a new orchestral soundtrack album to commemorate it. There’s nothing else announced as a means of celebration quite yet, but one could hope that a few Nier titles may go on sale, or something similar at any rate.

Unfortunately, July 1st is pretty far away, especially when one is excited about something. Granted, for those that were specifically interested in more Nier related news, SinoAlice isn’t exactly a game in the Nier universe. But for those who have played Nier games and enjoyed the distinct combination of aspects Yoko Taro brings to all of his work, SinoAlice will probably scratch a familiar itch for great storytelling, thought-provoking themes, and excellent music.

Don’t forget that pre-registering for the Google Play version of the game is available right now. IOS pre-registration is not yet available, but it surely can’t be too far off since the Google Play option is up already. Keep an eye out and sign up as soon as possible if interested!
