Delays are hardly anything new right now, considering that the pandemic that still holds its grip over the world has forced many forms of media to be delayed from their initial release date. Unfortunately, we’re not quite out of the woods yet, and so even more films have been delayed: this time, it’s both Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Uncharted movie that’s been in development since before 2020.
The Uncharted film, which we know will star Tom Holland, was initially intended to release on July 16, 2021. Unfortunately, the film has suffered a huge delay of approximately half a year, with the release date being moved all the way to February 11, 2022.
As for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it too has been hit with a pretty substantial delay, with the new release date being November 11, 2021. The original release date was supposed to be June 11.
It’s worth noting that the Uncharted movie is not being delayed in order to provide more time for filming, as that was completed in 2020 after more than a decade in development. We already know that it stars Tom Holland, easily recognizable as the man who plays Spiderman in the MCU films recently. Holland will be playing as Nathan Drake, the infamous protagonist of the PlayStation exclusive game series. Mark Wahlberg will be in the film playing as Victor Sullivan, who is the father figure and mentor of the main protagonist. Other major roles in the film adapted from an action game franchise will be played by Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali and Tati Grabrielle. Ruben Fleischer, who directed the Venom movie, directed this Uncharted movie.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is being advertised as a sequel to the original ‘80s movies of the franchise. Paul Rudd from Ant-Man and Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things will be starring in major roles for the film. Trevor, who will be played by Finn Wolfhard, and Phoebe, played by Mckenna Grace from Captain Marvel, are the grandkids of a member of the original Ghostbusters team. The duo moves to a remote farm out in the country at their mother’s behest, but of course, ghosts make the ordinary setup into something entirely more exciting. Fittingly, this Ghostbusters sequel is being directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters’ director Ivan Reitman.
No official reason has actually been provided as to why these movies have been delayed, but it’s not hard to hazard a guess. With the pandemic still at large in the world and especially the United States, very few people are interested in going to movie theaters right now, so it isn’t exactly a profitable time for anyone to be releasing major films. It’s very likely that no one is interested in doing so, that being the case. There’s little doubt that producers and publishers would like to wait until the situation has improved considerably before putting the movies in theaters, something that would certainly help them as far as profit is concerned.
