However, there is one big achievement the team behind this speedy film can claim loudly and boldly- according to CNN Business, this mighty Sega movie has now achieved the status of holding the best opening weekend record for a video game film, ever!

While Sonic and Sega as a whole have always trailed a bit behind their ever-popular Nintendo rivals, that doesn’t mean they don’t plan to take advantage of the coming year. Sega has announced the Sonic 2020 Project, which will have the company announcing Sonic related news on the 20th of every month this year. Of course, the announcement for January was actually the announcement that this project was going to happen, so it’s a bit of a cheap move on that front.
