Few things are as important to the safety of a baby than their car seat. When babies are traveling in a car, it is the fastest they will move during this stage of their life. As such, risk of injury is heightened. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies are kept in rear-facing car seats until they are two or older. After that, they should use a forward-facing car or booster seat for as long as possible. For infants, a rear-facing seat is recommended because it reduces force absorbed by the body in an accident. While most accidents are unavoidable, it is your responsibility as a parent to make sure your baby is as safe as possible.
