Ceiling Fans with Lighting & Controlled by Remote Control Overview
A new ceiling fan has the potential to be a great centerpiece of any well-decorated room and a great ceiling fan utilizes both strong performance and remarkable aesthetics. The market has many options for indoor fans to help you stay cool while providing light. Fan remotes for ceiling fans allow for easy control of your fan speed.
Ceiling Fan Remote
Most ceiling fans today are equipped with a wireless, battery-powered remote control. The benefit and convenience offered by remotes is incredible.
Ceiling Fan Lighting
Ceiling fans with lights are also good for buyers looking to illuminate their indoor spaces while also having a fan. If you buy the right ceiling fan, it will not only provide convenience, but a luxury.
In this list, we have compiled the five best ceiling fans with remote control and lighting on the market. We have taken into account factors such as remote control features, aesthetics, fan size, unique features, design, lighting type (LED?), shortcomings, number of blades, size, and pricing.
We have gone to great lengths to research the best possible options for all buyers and include all the necessary information for buyers in this list, including URL links that can be followed to buy the product. It’s important to note that all of the fans in this list are strictly indoor fans only and have not been listed for outdoor use and they are all ceiling fans that include remotes and lights.
Here are the best ceiling fans with remote control and lights:
1. Best Overall: Hunter 59243 Indoor Low Profile Dempsey 44 Inch Ceiling Fan with Lights and Remote Control in 3 Colors
Hunter 59243 Dempsey 44” Ceiling Fan Review
From the Originators Themselves: While our top picks for best remote-controlled ceiling fans consists almost entirely of fans from Honeywell, we couldn’t make a complete list without including an entry for Hunter, who invented the ceiling fan and has been innovating their creation for over 130 years, since 1886 to be exact.
For this list, we’ve chosen the Hunter Indoor Low Profile 44” Dempsey ceiling fan because it offers all the essential features: quiet performance, LED lighting, reversible motor, and a lifetime warranty. A neat feature about the LED lights on this fan that we haven’t seen a lot of in this list is the ability to dim them.
The Dempsey also features a similar double-sided paint finish on the blades as the Carmel, with black oak on one side and rich chocolate on the other. To contrast the finish of the fan blades is the nickel brushed silver base unit, giving the Dempsey a similar appearance to the Rio fan, our #2 pick.
In addition, the Dempsey was designed for taller users and rooms with lower ceilings in mind, as the Dempsey’s low profile and 11 inch height make this great option for rooms with short height space or taller users who wish for a ceiling fan that stays close to the ceiling in order to avoid bumping into them.
Our only complaint with this fan is its shorter fan length. At 44 inches, it’s quite a bit shorter than the other ceiling fans on this list and while it isn’t an enormous departure from the Carmel’s 48 inch height, we feel that 44 inches is a bit short for a ceiling fan, especially when you consider that shorter fan length results in less area being covered by the air circulated by your ceiling fan.
The Dempsey’s small size is further emphasized by its price being more expensive than that of the Carmel. Also, while we would not quite count this as an entry for our “Cons” list for the Dempsey, we did notice that the height report was inaccurate. The height is actually a little over 12 inches tall, not 11 inches.
Additional Features:
Light type: LED
Dimensions: 44” x 44” x 11”
Pros:
- Nickel brushed silver base with double-sided black and brown fan blades
- Whisper-quiet performance
- Reversible motor
- Dimmable LED light bulbs
- Low profile makes this great for rooms with low ceilings
- Limited Lifetime Warranty
Cons:
- Fan is a bit short in length, affecting the fan’s coverage area

2. Best Designed: Honeywell 50195 3 Blade 54 Inch Rio Remote Control Ceiling Fan with Remote Control and Lights in 3 Colors
Honeywell 50195 Rio 54” Ceiling Fan Review
Contemporary and Packed with The Necessary: Designed for medium to large sized rooms, Honeywell’s 54” Rio ceiling fan offers largely the same features as the Carnegie, such as compatibility with Alexa, “Smart Sync” and “Walk Away Light Delay” modes, quiet reversible motor, and three different fan speeds to cycle between.
The Rio has an extremely polished, contemporary style of aesthetic. With its gleaming nickel chrome finished base and smooth matte black polished fan blades, the Rio will complete any living room. Along with the stunning hues of silver and black, the Rio features a bulbous white frosted glass bowl light. This is a large cosmetic improvement over the relatively uncovered lights offered in the Carnegie (below).
The Rio ceiling fan has three fast spinning blades allowing for optimized performance, ensuring your room gets plenty of airflow. The Rio can be mounted on a variety of different ceilings using three different mounting methods: on a flat ceiling using a downrod, on a slanted ceiling with an angled mount, and flush-mounted using a downrod.
An unfortunate disadvantage of the Rio is its incandescent light bulbs may be a turn off for buyers who prefer LED lights, which are known to be more energy efficient and as they consume less wattage in comparison. For this reason, LED lights tend to last longer than incandescent lights.
Additional Features:
Light type: Incandescent
Dimensions: 9.7” x 11.5” x 24.7”
Pros:
- Central unit features a brushed nickel finish while the three fan blades have a black matte finish
- 3 fan speed settings
- Quiet motor
- 3 different mount settings
- Compatible with Alexa
- Installation takes approximately 45-60 minutes
- Limited Lifetime Manufacturer’s Warranty guarantees customer satisfaction
Cons:
- The Rio’s incandescent light bulbs may be a turn off for buyers who prefer LED lights, which are longer-lasting and more energy efficient

3. Best Value: Honeywell Carmel 50197 48 Inch 5 Blade Flush Mount Ceiling Fan with Remote Control and Lighting Fixture - 2 Colors
Honeywell Carmel 50197 48″ Ceiling Fan Review
Excellent Overall Option in Warm Brown: Honeywell has introduced a unique finish on the Carmel ceiling fan, giving it a cimarron wood finish on one side of the blades with an ironwood finish on the other.
Also included are many of the features standard to most Honeywell ceiling fans: three different speed settings, quiet and reversible motor, three different mounting settings for varying ceiling situations, Smart Sync Mode for easy setup, and “Walk Away Light Delay Mode” for a convenient shutdown.
The Carmel also has a similar white bulbous light bowl cover that we have seen in the Rio. The Rio offers all of these great features while keeping its price below the Carnegie’s price. Honeywell is so confident that buyers will be impressed by the Carmel that they offer a full lifetime warranty with every Carmel fan!
A feature that we noticed in the Carmel that buyers may need to be aware of is its incandescent lights. As mentioned in the Rio’s section, LED lights tend to be more preferred by buyers because they are longer lasting and more energy efficient.
Also, one critique we had when assessing the Carmel is the lack of a more decorative remote. It has the same remote as the Carnegie and while remotes aren’t the most crucial part of ceiling fans, we found that it certainly would have been a nice touch for Honeywell to personalize or customize remotes a bit differently for each of their fans.
For instance, if the remote shared the same paint finish as the Carmel fan blades as opposed to its standard off-white color, the Carmel would certainly be more appealing as its brilliant aesthetics don’t need to stop at just the fan itself, why not customize the remote too?
Additional Features:
Light type: Incandescent
Dimensions: 8.7” x 13.7” x 27.2”
Pros:
- Can be used with Alexa
- Unique finish
- 3 fan speed settings
- Smart Sync Mode and “Walk Away Light Delay” Mode for convenient setup and operation
- Quiet and reversible motor
- 3 different mount settings: can be mounted on a flat ceiling using a downrod, on a slanted ceiling with an angled mount, and can be flush-mounted using a downrod.
- Installation takes approximately 45-60 minutes
- Limited Lifetime Manufacturer’s Warranty guarantees customer satisfaction
Cons
- Incandescent lights are not ideal for buyers who prefer longer-lasting and more efficient LED lights
- Remote has a rather bland layout and coloration

4. Best Industrial: Honeywell Carnegie 50614-01 52 Inch Country Rustic LED Indoor Ceiling Fan Remote Control and Lights
Honeywell Carnegie 50614-01 52” Ceiling Fan Review
Industrial Impression with a Cozy Aura: Honeywell is a diversified manufacturer of technology specializing in aerospace, building technologies, performance materials, and safety solutions. They have had a large hand in developing energy efficient and homey indoor units.
Their 52” Carnegie LED ceiling fan offers a modern yet cozy rough pine and chestnut finish on the fan blades. The fan has three different speed settings to choose from: high, medium, and low. These modes can be cycled between using the included remote controller, which can also toggle the light on and off as well as dim the light.
The Carnegie offers a couple of different modes for convenient use. First is the “Walk Away Light Delay” that when activated, will power the fan light off after a minute. This gives the user ample time to leave a room and the fan light will turn off after they leave without requiring any further input. The second utility mode is Smart Sync, which will pair the remote with your Carnegie’s receiver unit at the push of a button, no confusing tuning of switches and frequencies required.
The Carnegie has three different mount settings for varying roof types: flat ceiling using a downrod, slanted ceiling using an angled mount, and flush-mounted using a downrod. In addition, the Carnegie is compatible with Alexa, allowing for convenient voice control.
There has been some criticism of the Carnegie’s vague and possibly incomplete instructions, such as a lack of directions to sync the fan with Alexa. This means that the installation process for the Carnegie may be difficult and even painstaking. A lot of feedback states that a big issue was with installing home devices.
While this does not confirm that all buyers will have difficulty with installing the Carnegie in their homes, it is certainly something to take into consideration when buying one.
Furthermore, we noticed the remote has a bland design that is lacking in any unique layout or coloration. We would prefer that Honeywell had a more unique remote personalized to the Carnegie, perhaps adopting its color scheme or utilizing a more sleek and modern design.
Additional Features:
Light type: LED
Dimensions: 23.1” x 14.8” x 9.3”
Pros:
- Modern industrial aesthetics. The fan blades are made of rough pine and chestnut.
- 3 fan speed settings: high, medium, and low
- Smart Sync Mode and “Walk Away Light Delay” Mode for convenient setup and operation
- 3 different mount settings
- Quiet and reversible motor
- Works with Alexa
- Three Edison LED bulbs
- Installation takes approximately 45-60 minutes
- 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty
Cons:
- Numerous customer complaints have described the instructions as vague and hard-to-follow
- Bland remote design

5. Best Splurge: Honeywell Xerxes 50609-01 62 Inch 8 Blade Indoor Ceiling Fan with Remote Control and Lights
Honeywell Xerxes 50609-01 62″ Ceiling Fan Review
Honeywell offers a monster size ceiling fan, the Xerxes, suitable for large rooms, common areas, etc. This enormous fan spans 62 inches, and is comprised of a whopping eight fan blades.
Aside from this, the Xerxes has all the standard Honeywell features: three different speed settings, quiet and reversible motor, three different mounting settings, and double-sided painting on the fan blades. The fan blades are finished with dark elm on one side and a lighter rough pine color on the other. The base itself is painted with a nickel brushed silver chrome color. The color palette gives the Xerxes a timeless industrial look that is also appropriate for modern spaces as well.
Another thing to note about the base is that it has a unique flat circle of white frosted light, a great modern addition that differs from the frosted bulbous light bowls that we’ve become used to seeing from the ceiling fans on this list. Furthermore, the Xerxes can be hooked up with Google Home and Alexa, depending on what you’d like. This makes the Xerxes the only unit on this list that is able to work with Google Home.
While the Xerxes is certainly a hefty, powerful unit, it has a very large amount of fan blades. Containing eight fan blades, this is easily the ceiling fan with the highest number of blades on this list and thus, the Xerxes will rotate at a much slower speed than other fans with a lower number of fan blades.
This means that the Xerxes will cycle air at a slower rate than typical ceiling fans, and the airflow of fresh air won’t be as fast or energy efficient. As discussed in the introduction of this article, the one redeeming quality of this large number of fan blades is that the Xerxes should have a more quiet operating noise than its competitors with fewer fan blades
Additional Features:
Light type: LED
Dimensions: 27.9” x 11” x 13.3”
Pros:
- Large size. At 62”, the Xerxes is sure to cover huge rooms
- Dimmable LED lights range from 10% to 100% brightness
- 3 speed settings
- 3 different mount settings: can be mounted on a flat ceiling using a downrod, on a slanted ceiling with an angled mount, and can be flush-mounted using a downrod.
- Quiet and reversible motor
- Compatible with Google Home and Alexa
- Installation takes approximately 45-60 minutes
- Limited Lifetime Warranty
Cons:
- Containing eight fan blades, the Xerxes is going to run slower and less efficiently than most other ceiling fans with less fan blades

Ceiling Fan with Remote Control & Lighting Fixture Buying Guide
What To Look For
Reversible Motors
An important feature of many remote-controlled ceiling fans with lights is whether they have a reversible motor or not. Reversible motors allow you to switch the direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) that the fan spins depending on how you wire.
To make a fan rotate in the opposite direction, reverse the polarity of the motor. If the motor does not specify that it is reversible, then this can’t be done. Reversing a ceiling fan’s motor allows the fan to blow hot air down in the winter.
Instead of blowing down cool air, the reversed fan will blow down hot air. Due to this feature being so useful, we’ve decided to include only ceiling fans with remote control, lighting and reversible motors on this list.
Ceiling Height
Height is also important to consider. Walking into a room and bumping your head into the ceiling fan is a horrible feeling. For rooms that have ceilings of less than nine feet, you should pick a flush-mounted ceiling fan, which is designed to be mounted inside the ceiling and limit the height from which the ceiling fan hangs down from.
Blade Count
Another important feature to keep in mind is the number of blades on a fan. Fans with more blades tend to make less noise but spin slower. Fans with less blades spin faster and allow for more efficient performance moving air, but at the cost of producing more noise.
Giant wind turbines that operate in mountains, for example, typically employ a small number of blades, around three or four, in order to spin faster and produce more wind. Their role as industrial machines along with their placement in barren mountains makes the tradeoff for higher noise levels worth it.
Having a higher number of blades results in a fan balancing between performance and noise input, which is why many household fans have around four or five blades.
Lighting & Remote Control Options
Part of what makes a great ceiling fan are features like lighting and remote control. This is especially important if you’re looking to replace your current lighting source with the new ceiling fan. It would be a shame to remove your lighting fixture, add a ceiling fan and then having to add a lamp to light your room.
Remote Controls make using your ceiling fan that much easier. Instead of having to stand up from the couch or get out of bed to go to the light switch, a remote control feature is not only convenient but, in our opinion, it is essential.
Alexa-Compatibility
While being able to use a remote control to turn on/off your ceiling fan or change speeds is convenient, being able to use voice control is the next level. A number of newer ceiling fan models from various brands such as Honeywell offer Alexa compatibility and is a great feature to look for when purchasing a new ceiling fan.
In Conclusion
Whether you’re looking for a ceiling fan with led indoor outdoor features, a ceiling fan that has a remote control included, whether it be a wall mounted or hand held remote or if you’re looking specifically for a ceiling fan with light kit and remote, we hope this guide helped in making a decision.
