If two-day shipping wasn’t fast enough, consumers will be excited to know Amazon is moving forward with its one-day shipping plan.
After a battle heating up between online retailers, Amazon’s one-day shipping has landed with no minimum purchase amount for Prime members across the U.S. in select cities and metro areas. What can you buy? One of 10 million items available online at Amazon. The site will notify a buyer if the item is eligible for one-day shipping at check out.
The company wrote that it hopes to expand the one-day shipping eligible items in the coming months. Products available online now for one-day shipping include beauty products, books, devices, and much, much more. According to Amazon, Prime’s one-day shipping is already exceeding the two-day offer launched in 2005.
“But we will keep adding more selection and expanding our delivery areas to ensure Prime members get their products faster than ever,” Amazon wrote in a press release. “Prime members will find that more and more items are being delivered in just one day.”
The service is currently available in 44 major cities across the U.S. Some items are even available for same-day delivery if order before noon.
Amazon Prime began expanding its one-day delivery in early April, according to the company, and will keep adding more products and expanding delivery areas. Customers can check online to see where free Prime one-day delivery is available.
After investing more than $800 million to make one-day shipping possible, Amazon is ramping up its domination of the online-retail market. Walmart announced in mid-May it would also offer one-day shipping, taking on Amazon’s challenge. Yahoo Finance wrote that Walmart may have an ‘unparalleled edge’ against Amazon in a June 4 article, accounting for Walmart’s expansive retail presence across the country. “As Walmart U.S. CEO Greg Foran puts it, ‘…we’re not talking a small store here — we’re talking large stores within 10 miles of 90 percent of the population.’ Foran told Yahoo that Walmart has the capacity to move products by buying “in truckloads” and moving “in truckloads.”
“We put it on the shelf, in a cart. It’s a pretty efficient model,” Foran told Yahoo from the floor of one if its massive stores.
Amazon may struggle without the same massive presence Walmart already has nationwide. Amazon even took to asking employees to quit by offering them up to $10,000 to asking employees to quit by offering them up to $10,000 to start their own delivery businesses. However, if the company is already rolling out one-day delivery, they could have developed a massive network within the past few months to keep its one-day promise. Walmart and Amazon will need to keep their promises to continue their customer loyalty.
