For anyone that’s been keeping up with us or Sony in general, they know that a virtual event Sony had intended to hold a few days ago was delayed. The virtual event was going to reveal some information about the upcoming PlayStation 5, as well as some of the games that were going to launch with it or be available on it. While it was originally supposed to be on June 4th, the event was delayed. Sony’s reasoning for this was tied to the protests regarding the death of George Floyd. In their own words, they felt as though it was an inappropriate time to hold a virtual event like that when there were more important voices to be heard in the community.

Thanks to a leak on Twitch, we now know that Sony has rescheduled the event for a new date, since they could hardly put it off indefinitely. The new time and date for the virtual event is June 11th at 1 PM PT/4 PM ET. The broadcast is going to be streamed at 1080p at 30 frames a second. Of course, this may seem a little strange: seeing as how this presentation is supposed to be showcasing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5, one would think that it would need to be streamed in 4K and at least 60 FPS. But in a PlayStation Blog Post, Sony made the following statement about this scenario.

“This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”

Taking that into consideration, it is understandable why the presentation is being streamed at a lower quality, but it is still a letdown. The main purpose of the presentation was to see just how amazing the games of the next generation are going to look, which you can’t really do if it isn’t going to be streamed at top quality. Still, the presentation will reveal some specifications about the console as well as show some of the titles that will be available, even if we don’t get to see them in their intended glory.

Furthermore, Sony made it clear that the presentation should be watched with headphones.

“[T]here’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”

More specific details haven’t been provided, but Sony has claimed already that the PlayStation 5 will provide a totally new evolution in video games and their sounds. Even with the presentation being streamed in a lower visual quality, there’s no reason to think the audio can’t still be enjoyed at its highest quality. All of that said, the presentation on June 11th should still be a very enlightening view of the PlayStation 5 and what it will be capable of in the future.
